What is the Difference Between VPS and On-Demand Shared Hosting?

In short, the difference between VPS and Shared web hosting is depth of usage and access of web content. In most cases, larger enterprise-level projects are encouraged to use a VPS or dedicated hosting solution which provides the greatest level of administrative control for web content backups, maintenance, and bandwidth for accessing web pages and other content. For smaller or personal projects, many small companies and individuals opt for a lower cost solution in the form of On-Demand Shared web hosting which provides web space on a server that is "shared" by mutliple accounts and does not dedicate the entire server or server section to solely one client's set of accounts.

So why doesn't Consulternatives offer On-Demand Shared Hosting?

Through the end of 2010, Consulternatives offered On-Demand Shared Hosting. However, given the potential issues that can arise from an availability and stability/access perspective and the potential risks associated wtih shared environments, as a means to offer the highest quality service to our clients, we opted to discontinue our On-Demand Shared Hosting offering. As a result, we set out to provide the most cost effective VPS Hosting possible to our clients. Doing so improves service quality and reliability to our clients.

NOTE: If paying Quarterly, a 2% discount is issued. For Semi-Annual payment, a 5% discount is issued. For Annual payment, a 10% discount is issued.
